What is the name of the person who can help you fill out the paperwork for a bankruptcy, but is not a lawyer?

There is a name for a person who helps to make sure your paperwork for a bankruptcy is done properly, but does not legally represent you? I am trying to find someone like that in my area, but cannot remember what this profession is called.

You probably mean a paralegal. If you are low income, you can seek help from the legal aid society and get a real lawyer to help you.

If you’re employed, check with your Employer Assistance Program or subscribe to a legal plan. Many people forget that they can use this service at their disposal, and that included bankruptcy advice. Depending on your benefits, some even have attorneys that help you with BK-7.
