Your credit is already shot, and you CANNOT afford to pay for anything right now other than day to day necessities…

It’s nice that you want to do the right thing, but your family’s well being is more important than your credit score.

Like I said, your credit is already terrible, and with no disposable income (that means income that is left after necessities), there is no way for you to pay this now.

You need to get a job, but most of the money you make will go toward bills, health insurance (sounds like you don’t have it, if it cost you $30,000 to have your baby!) and you need to put some money (as much as possible) in savings whenever you can (yes, BEFORE you pay back your old debts)… IF you have money left over, send it to the creditors.

Filing bankruptcy will hurt your credit for 10 MORE years from now. While I believe that is important to pay your debts, I believe putting food on the table, a roof over your family’s head, and clothes on their back is a higher priority than re-establishing your credit.

Wow, I never thought I would counsel someone to NOT pay their debt! Really, I’m not, but I AM saying that you need to take care of first things first. There are worse things than bad credit: homelessness, starvation, and sick children. Make sure these things don’t happen. Later, you can take care of your credit.

do not file bankruptcy-it stays with you for 10 years.

look for day labor,a temp agency, babysitting.

look for hidden money-what you don’t need to spend. you’re at a point of cutting out luxuries.

cancel your internet & cable. if you have a cell & home phone, cancel the land line.

cut out meat 2 times a week,no more soda or bottled water. no alcohol or ciggies.

call the c.c. company & ask them to stop adding interest, then close the account. the last thing you need is more debt.

no more new clothes or shoes-only underclothes when you need them. no fast food. walk as much as possible.

Your husband needs to find a better paying job and maybe a part time job. And you need to keep looking for a job. I know economic times are tough, but I find it difficult to believe you can’t find any job. Maybe you can baby sit neighborhood kids while taking care of your daughter. If your community is so depressed that you can’t fid anything, maybe you need to move. Good luck to you.
