I’m declaring Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I incurred a large amount of debt (about K, all credit card). It began with buying an older car that cost me hundreds a month in repairs and continued through other forms of bad luck (a huge roaming charge on a phone plan with a grandfather clause, unemployment, etc.). I’m not the stereotypical shopaholic who wants to get a lot of stuff for free…anyone who saw my lifestyle would see that I don’t live extravagantly.
I went to one attorney who quoted me 00, which seemed like a lot since my case is pretty cut and dried. I know a paralegal who will prepare my documents for 0, but once the docs are done, I’m on my own, and I really don’t want to face a bunch of corporate attorneys by myself at a creditors’ meeting, so I’m thinking of hiring an attorney.
I figure I could pay something like 00 (0 up front with three or four monthly payments beyond that) for an attorney to draw up papers and defend me at a creditors’ meeting. Is this a reasonable fee to expect?

I don’t know if creditors will show up to my meeting or not, but if they do, I want legal representation with me. This paralegal will file the paperwork for me, but that’s all they will do.
or Wait till I get back to Michigan? I don’t want to but I have 6,000 a month worth of bill after some bad choices and will be from from my Unemployment.
I live in Washtenaw County Ann Arbor,MI and I have two deliquent pay day loans due to unemployment that I did not get to pay off. Can I be prosecuted for this? Because I was told by tow of the creditors that I will be prosecuted. I got these through an online payday advance website. I am going to file for bankruptcy soon. I tried explaining that I am out of work and that I would pay when I get back to work. But they say no is this true? Please help very scared!!!
we have 14,000 cc debt, our checking acct. is frozen, wife gets unemployment(280 a week) due to plant closure, she is going to start school in a week.we have a 2nd mortgage and the equity right now is about 00,car loan for 16,000 my truck is paid for. do we qualify for either ch.7 or 13 bankruptcy?
. . . when unemployment benefits run out and business is taxed so badly they can’t hire? What will it look like when good God-fearing people can no longer feed their babies? What will it look like in your town when most people lose their homes and have nothing left? What will it look like when the states file bankruptcy? Just curious. Please try to picture this because it is going to happen. Just imagine the crime rates. Please arm yourselves.
My Car was just repossessed and they are going to sue me. I am very behind on credit cards that I can not pay. I lost my job several months ago and have filed for disability. I have no income, no savings..nothing. All I am getting is food stamps (which I am very grateful for) but no other assistance. I am not getting unemployment, as I was terminated and was not eligible. I keep getting advice to file bankruptcy..but I have no assets, no money to hire an attorney..so I don’t know how I would file chapter 7 or 13 when I have no money or assets..don’t they need that?. How does someone file bankruptcy with no money? I called Legal Aid (Cincinnati) and they were unable to help me or suggest anyone who can help me pro bono. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am not sure what to do. I already know my credit will be trashed, so no need to tell me that. Thank you for listening.
Bought a brand new car 6 mo’s ago. Had 2 g’s in negative equity in previous car which obviously rolled over to this one. Have a 600 beacon so got high interest rate on new car. Just made 6th payment and owe about 7 g’s more on it than what Kelly blue book says its worth on trade. With the credit market the way it is I don’t see a way out of this vehicle. The payment is too high on it for me now because I lost my job and have been unable to find a similar paying job for past 3 months, and I can’t get unemployment. Haven’t missed a payment or been late on this car or the previous one I had for just over a year. I only have about 0 in credit card debt, but am maxed out basically. Have other various debt from years back. At this point I don’t see how I’ll be able to come up with car payment and rent at the end of December, so I need to figure something before then.Is there anything I can do?
I’m going through a tough time right now, the economy hit me hard, and I ran out of unemployment awhile ago. I have a few little bills here and there, but there being unpayed because im having a very tough time finding money, even for gas. I have a job thats going to start soon, but I’m just afraid. Well, I’m 23 years old and I’ve had a horrible streak of bad luck. I was laid-off some months back and once unemployment ran out still haven’t been able to get a job. I’ve been concentrating on paying my rent and utilities, and because of that my car was just repossessed. I have 2 credit cards that are just stacking up. All in all I have about 20,000 in debt, that because of essential bills such as rent I’m unable to pay off right now. Can I file bankruptcy? Should I?
