Why is so hard to find free legal assistance for bankruptcy?

I made the mistake of trying to pay my credit cards as long as I could instead of stop paying 2 months beforehand to use the money for a bankruptcy attorney. I can’t go back on that one and my cards ar 3 months late and one is turned over to an attorney already. I have no money, actually 2 months away from not even having rent money so I have no money to pay anymore (I paid a small payment for a while to them but that didn’t satisfy them) and have no money to file chapter 7. I called the legal assistance numbers for Texas and they don’t handle bankruptcy anymore. Why do you have to be a murderer, illegal alien, child molester, rapist, etc, to get free legal assistance in Texas? Every private organization that I was refered only handles illegals and real criminals?
I have no money, no car, no assets, and give money to my child who lives with my mom, so I have nothing for them to take and only make 600 month currently (my employer won’t let me work any extra hours and I got in trouble for working 15 minutes extra last week (I had a customer so I couldnl’t just go clock out).
this was supposed to be in credit but somehow ended up in singles and dating? Another good question
to answered number 4, my life changed completely last year after being stable for 14 years. Lost my family, home, job, etc. Paid my cards on a timely basis for 14 years and did have to depend on them for things like dental and medical (no insurance), clothes, and other of life’s necessities. Having no transportation limits job opportunities as does not being able to get out after dark because of the gang activity in my neighborhood. And no I can’t move, I have a lease and can’t afford to live anywhere else anyway.

Why do credit card companies raise your interest rates when you don't and can't pay your bill?

I am in a situation where I can no longer pay my credit cards. I have paid them in a timely fashion for the past 17 years but can longer handle even the smallest payment. I am sending them each 5 dolllars a month and that is money that I really could use for groceries. My interest rates kept raising although I paid early each month thus I had less buying power and I did depend on the cards to buy necessities along with a few extras. My cards are a few months deliquent and they are sending me bills for three months back payments and my interest rates have gone to 29.99% and thus my minumum payments are higher. They are not going to get this money so why do they ad in on? I want to file bankruptcy but dont’ have the money to do so. Dont’ they realize that if I can’t pay 150 dollars I can’t 300 dollars?

When to file to better ensure you keep your tax return?

My husband and I realize the only way out is Chapter 7. We have struggled to pay off our debt, but due to circumstances we just got more and more behind on necessities for our family of 4, not to mention my husband also has a son he pays child support on. We are well below the median income level for our family size and desperately need our tax return to get caught up on needs for our family and home (clothes, car repairs, minor home repairs etc,) and also ensure we don’t get behind again in case of an emergency (like pay an extra 2 months worth of rent or pay extra on utilities etc.) We aren’t trying to cheat or lie about our tax return when we file bankruptcy, nor are we planning on using it for anything other then needs of our family with the exception of maybe a couple hundred to take our kids to a large aquarium they have been dying to go to. We will likely get our tax return at the end of next month and wonder how long we should wait if possible to file for Chapter 7? We are speaking with an attorney, but this isn’t exactly something they will tell you about and so forth. We are in California.
Oh, we know about counseling, but we very much doubt they would NOT think we don’t have to file, more like they will wonder why we waited this long.

To Pay or Not to Pay? Reinstate mortgage or File Chapter 7 or 13?

I am 25, married, and own a small home. Due to very slow payment (I pay mortgage with student loan monies when they arrive), my house is going into foreclosure. I also have a lot of debt from medical expenses, and hubby has major debt (car, credit cards) from his teen years.

I have enough money to reinstate my mortgage without filing some type of bankruptcy. However, that would leave me with no lump sum of safety money. I do work, so I could feed myself – but I never seem to have enough income to pay for regular expenses AND my mortgage. So, if I don’t file bankruptcy and I catch up/reinstate my mortgage…I know I’m going to fall right back into the "non-payment" category again.

Is catching up my mortgage better than filing bankruptcy? What about the other debts that I have? How is credit affected?

(I’m going to grad school, so I have many years of being a poor college student left. I just need to know what I should do about my house and other bills in collections)
SideNote to a response on student loans: Student Loan money can be used for any of the following reasons, not limited to: tuition, educational supplies, food, housing, clothing, misc. necessities / personal items, technology purchases (hardware & software), etc. My lenders are VERY aware of the fact that I am investing in my future by paying for current expenses with loans. Hence, the reason that most lenders always mention "housing or room & board expenses" and are very inclusive on those types of expenses.

Forget to add: Hubby is also college student (not a bum in case you’re wondering).

Again, mostly just wanting to find out which Bankruptcy would be beneficial considering my other debt.

If I pay up the mortgage/reinstate – how long will it take of on-time payments to have good standing / good credit again?

Would it be better if I went bankrupt instead of trying to pay off my huge debt?

I am in over my head in debt. Every month I have to "borrow" at least 0 extra dollars just to pay my bills. My husband and I recently separated. He left me to take care of all the bills. Currently I am a 4th grade teacher and make about ,000 a year. Every debt is in my name (including a car that I got in my name for him, that he now refuses to pay for because someone else put another car in their name for him–his sister). He didn’t have a job at the time, so most of the major stuff that we have gotten was in my name when we got married.

I am probably about ,000 in debt with credit cards; ,000 in student loans; 00 in personal loans; ,000 in car payments (2 cars–1 is almost paid for).

I have no extra income other than the child support (5 a month for 2 small babies that I raise alone). I use the child support on them instead of on me or bills because that is what it is for.

Am I an idiot for trying to pay all these bills off monthly and have no money extra to buy groceries and gas???Should I just file bankruptcy?
I would love to open up my own family daycare but don’t know how to do it. I only want to keep 5-6 kids so that I won’t have to hire anyone and so that I can keep afloat.
I used those credit cards to pay bills and buy groceries and necessities because he would always cry "I’m broke!" and had a very good paying job. He never wanted to give money He told me I had to ask for it.

Yes I have two cars. No one will buy the new one ( a malibu maxx) because I am upside down in it and I want to keep the older one because it is a Camry and I will have paid it off in May of next year.

I live in Mississippi so that is all you get for two kids.

Would prison be a good alternative to work?

I figured I’m only working to get by, but in prison they take care of all the necessities. I’m kind of sick of work and wouldn’t mind taking a 5-10 year break.

I don’t want to hurt anyone and I don’t want to go for life. Just enough for this bankruptcy to roll off my credit report.

Any ideas?
Just so you guys know, I’d also be using this as street cred for my rap career. I plan on going into the music industry when I get out, not the corporate world.

What if you can’t afford a bankruptcy lawyer?

If you lose a job and can’t afford a bankruptcy lawyer and you can’t pay your bills and have to stop paying on things like credit cards what happens at that point? I mean, can creditors take you to court? I know this sounds stupid but can you go to jail? If the bank is foreclosing on your home and you sell everything you own except necessities and move to an apt can they come and take even those necessities from you?

Can you walkway from your Chapter 13 Bankruptcy payments without losing the two vehicles that i have?

I filed chapter 13 bankruptcy 3 years ago. i am not able to make the payments on my bankruptcy, but i dont want to lose my two cars. I have about 24 payments left, but i am not able to obtain certain necessities for my kids because all of my money goes to bankruptcy. I want to walk away from it like everyone is walking away from their homes. I heard that you could walk away, but i always thought you had to pay every month, so they dont take your vehicles away from you.
