Will my recent bankruptcy come between potential job/new career path?
I dont want to get into "why" I filed bankruptcy. I will say, I had no alternative.
Currently, I am in my 2nd year in college and I want to obtain employment while I am in school so that I dont have to take any more loans. I have put in a couple applications and have had one interview. Will the employer know when he interviews me that I have a bankruptcy? I have been told know days the employers dont even call ex employers because the only questions that can be ask are if the employee is rehirable? Is this true? I am concerned because if a new employer see’s that I have filed bankruptcy, and can’t get any good solid feedback from ex-employers then how will he/she know that I am a good prospect for the job?
Thanks

My husband and I have been trying to buy a house for 2 years. We both pay our bills on time and make decent money. The problem is that a few years ago he co-signed for a house for his sister. She moved out and quit paying for it and no one informed him until 3 days before it was supposed to foreclose in his name. They said we had to pay ,000 when he only cosigned originally for ,000 or the mortgage company was going to sue. She had put all her credit card debts and her car loan on the mortgage. So he filed bankruptcy to avoid being sued for ,000. Now all debt and credit is in my name which brought down my credit score and he has a bankruptcy on his credit report. We can’t seem to find any bank that will loan us the money to buy a house because they say my debt versus income to not good enough and his name can’t be on the house because of the bankruptcy. What can we do to buy a house?
It’s been 3 years since the bankruptcy. They did try to contact us many times, but they were mailing it to the address that he cosigned for. We lived somewhere else and didn’t know his sister moved out. They finally found us last minute. He had signed when she did refinancing at one time, but he he didn’t realize how much it was for and didn’t think his own sister would screw him over.
The worst part about it is that even with a bankruptcy he still has an awesome credit score and hardly any debt. He always has been very responsible when it comes to paying bills. One lender at our bank knows that we always pay off our loans, but he can’t seem to convince the other guys that don’t know us that they are safe to loan us the money for a house. So some advice to people: don’t ever cosign for anyone. Even if you think you can trust them. It gets honest people like us into a lot of trouble.

a few months ago i was jobless and homeless and ended up in the hospital in a state that i was not a resident of and the hospital sent me to like a psych ward/rehab place and that place wouldnt release me because they had nowhere to release me to until they got a hold of my parents and my parents came and got me and i got two bills from the hospital and one bill from the other place and i have a job but i dont get many hours and there really arent many options for jobs where i live i made payment arrangements with the hospital for two bills and i can just barely make the payments each month and the other place didnt send a bill until just recently and its over ,000 and they wont give me a payment arrangement that works for me they want almost ,300 a month for 4 months which i cant do i make less then 0 a month right now since that payment arrangement doesnt work they want me to get a loan from a bank but i dont have a credit history and no one would cosign and i dont make enough money to afford another bill each month my mom says that i should just file for bankruptcy my parents dont have the money to loan me and refuse to cosign anything for me or really help me in any way i dont want to have to file for bankruptcy because i dont want bad credit to start my credit history and i was hoping to go to college in the next few years (which would require loans) im only 19 and i have a daughter whos 10 months (she lives with her dad – she was not with me when i was homeless and all of that) and i want to be able to set the best example for her as i can and ive already messed up so is bankruptcy the best option or does any one have any ideas on what i should do?

We will be together 5yrs in October of this year. We have a 3yr old and a 1yr old. I basically married him because I got pregnant and thought it would be the right thing to do. We have NOTHING in common. We constantly fight. He already had us file for bankruptcy (he was 22 @ the time) he was taking out loans and had too many bank accounts (behind my back). He joined the military and now we live across the country from each other. I don’t think I have ever been in love with him, but if I ask for a divorce I think he will start a huge custody battle. To make matters worse I just recently came into contact with one of my ex-husband’s friends. I had feelings for him way back when and they are all coming back. It’s like the timing is always off with this guy. Should I just stay with my husband and forget about the other guy? We get along so well and we actually have things in common and he was the only one that confronted my abusive ex-husband. I’m so confused. Please help.
Its not my exhusband I was thinking about going back to. I hate him with a passion. He hurt me in every way possible. His friend is who I have feelings for. My husband is just a liar and emotionally dead. I’m more of an object to him than a wife. He is emotionally abusive. I never want to get married again. I just want someone who actually cares about me and my children. We deserve that.

My parents have filed bankruptcy and it wont be up for 2 more years. I start college this fall, but we don’t qualify for state or federal grants because "we make too much money". What the FASFA people don’t realize is the payment they make monthly to the bankruptcy court. My parents are so poor they have to borrow money from me that I make at my part time job, just to buy groceries. I wont be able to work much when school starts and I was wondering if anyone knew of some scholarships (no matter how little, every bit helps) or grants so that paying for books and related expenses wouldn’t be such a hassle. Tuition is free until i leave my community college (I have %75 bright futures). I just need help paying for books, supplies, and possibly gas. Can anyone help?
No loans whatsoever. I need grants or scholarships.

PLEASE someone w/sincere advice respond. Let me try to paint the picture: I got involved in too much debt around 18 yrs old. I thought I was helping by using my new "good" credit to co-sign loans etc, couldn’t keep up. filed ch 7 bnkrptcy @ 24, began to rebuild credt, got involved w/ a broker that said I could purchase a house A YEAR after filing. The #s differed @ closing from what we originally went over. I had already given my landlord notice, taken my mom out of a nursing home, promised my retired granddad a room, and adopted a dog from the shelter – I signed on the line. Shortly after I was laid off after 5 yrs w/ same company. tried to fix up to sell but found out home was worth less than i paid, took refi to repair & contractor split b4 work complete, tenant bailed on me w/out notice. WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS. I was STUPID i know, but what can i do now? owe so much, on unemplyment, renting, starting new job in 2 wks. afraid of what lawsuits will follow and wages taken… thanx!

My attorney just filed my petition for chapter 7 bankruptcy and I am going to a meeting of creditors in about 4 weeks. Do I continue paying on the loans i wish to reaffirm and try to catch them up (I am currently 1 payment behind on my car and i want to keep it) or do I wait until the meeting of creditors and just reaffirm? After reaffirmation will i have to catch up what i was behind, or do they just add what i was behind to the loan and allow me to make regular payments again?

I’ll make this quick. Do to some circumstances my wife and I fell behind on our mortgage. Our lender is countrywide. We have a 100% financed sub-prime loan with an 80/20 ARM and prepayment penalty. (A piece of trash loan I know, we know better now) Also there is another Lender…Franklin Credit which makes up the 20…We filed for bankruptcy in 2006 and have been making payments for two years now…due to the economy and a few unfortunate illnesses we were not able to stay current on our chapter 13 payments…so there was a motion filed by our trustee to close the bankruptcy unless we could become current by a certain time…..
When we contacted our lawyer he told us that we had three options…
1.bring the payments current(9,000.00) of course we don’t have that…
2.Let the bankruptcy go and hang on until foreclosure on our house starts then try to start another chapter 13….
3.Modify our current bankruptcy and pay them a fee to file this motion…go get chastised by a judge…and make our payments higher.
Oh I guess there were four options…4.convert to chapter 7….
At the time the bankruptcy was initiated there were no problems in making the payments….but then the bottom fell out…I am in transportation….my overtime was cut to 0….my wife has had a significant reduction in hours and I had a surgery that kept me out of work for two months…all of this has led to the fall behind…..
Ok so I have two questions relating to this situation…..
1. Can/Should I try to refinance the loans during the bankruptcy…The mortgage payments are made through the trustee….but we still get statements from countrywide….our current statement is 3000.00 a month UNBELIEVABLE…..If we can’t refinance there is no way we can afford this ridiculous arm after the bankruptcy…
2.Will president Obamas new plan help us during bankruptcy…we don’t know what to do…stay here pumping money into bk13 that was primarily done to save our home that we may not be able to keep after the bk….or convert to chapter 7…let it all go…uproot our family and start over…or possibly get some help from Obamas new plan.
We need guidance…we are good people with good jobs…good family…and good morals…we were admittantly irresponsible in money management…we own our part and we have drastically changed our lifestyle….but we were also taken advantage of as first time homebuyers so we want them to own thier part as well….
Please anyone who can give advice on my situtaion would be greatly appreciated…please don’t soilicit us…we are in trouble…our family is in trouble as many others…we need good soild, honest advice to get back on track…..Thank You.

My parents filed bankruptcy this year and now they do not qualify to co-sign with me for loans or are eligible for things like the parent loan that colleges offer. When I look at what colleges offer me for financial award on my award letter loans that require my parents are included in it anyway. The problem is when they do that and my parents can’t help me even if they wanted to and there is no extra money or options that the colleges can offer me in that award letter as a back-up plan. How can a college expect a person to go to college if their parents have no money and therefore filed bankruptcy? I want to go so bad but i do not know what to do. Any help at all is appreciated.

We are , 000 in debt. We tried debt management, and the payments were around 0 per month. We cannot afford that. We can’t file bankruptcy, because two loans that we have, my mother is the co-signer, and it would stick her with the payments, and she can’t afford to make those?

I don’t know the difference between any. What I do know is that my credit is jacked up, mainly with medical bills, and a repo from 2000 (that I thought should have been removed by now). I can’t even get a department store credit card, have NEVER HAD any credit cards or loans, so I don’t understand why I’m always denied when I know folks with much worst stuff, yet they get approved for everything. HELP!
…will my husband be affected if I file? His credit is pretty ok

Hello all, I just sold my homes via short sale and the 2nd loans (HELOC) are still pursuing the balance from me even though they released the lien. I do not know what to do from here except talk to a lawyer. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am in the South Bay Area (San Jose).

I have a friend who is talking about quitting school. He currently doesn’t have a job, but he feels like his online schooling is a joke! He wants to find work, but he knows if he quits school he’ll have to pay his loans back. So, he was asking me if he could file for bankruptcy and start-over and find a job. I don’t know if this is possible, so I’m asking this lovely community what you all think.

My husband has been in the hospital 5 times since February. We do not have medical Insurance because of many reasons. When he was in the hospital the only way the family could survive without his income was to put everything from groceries to CIPS on the credit cards because we had no income coming in. Now that he is back to good health and we are both working we still don’t make enough to pay off all these bills. We tried filing for state aid to help with the medical but we were denied. The medical bills alone are over 40 thousand and the credit cards are probably around another 10 thousand. What should we do? If we file will we loose our house and car too? I would like to just erase the medical and credit card debt but keep some other small loans that we have. Is this possible?
and if we do file, what will that do to our credit? Will be not be able to get a loan for a long time?

Thanks to idenity theift i pulled my credit, i found alot more than i expected but as it turns out they do all pan out. I am thinking about filing chapter 7 bankruptcy but since my wife’s credit is good we dont want it to show on her file, heres the thing. We are young we have nothing in our name our house is owned by her parents our cars are paid off we have no loans or anything of that nature with both of our names on it I would be filing by myself with out her. All my bad credit is old starting when i was 18 and I want to get a fresh start and with all the old medical bills and things bankruptcy seems the best for our family. I’ve read alot on these sites saying your credit is there credit and when you are married there debt becomes yours, this isnt true my wife’s credit score is over 700 while mine is in the 500’s this is why i am asking i dont want it showing up on her file…. does anyone get what im trying to say???

I am beginning to regret going to college, it seems the only thing I have attained from it, is debt. When I went to school I was allured to the dream of being an airline pilot. I finally got my pilot’s license, but it got to expensive, so I switched to Aviation Management. I am so depressed and mad at myself for letting this happen, and it seems like there is no way out. A few times I forgot to fill out the FAFSA so I had to take out loans to cover the expenses, or I was late getting it in and got no money.
Here’s where I am at:
1 Loan for ,000 (Monthly Payments of 476/mo); 1 Loan for 620 (Monthly Payments of 128); 1 Loan for 00 (Monthly Payments of 50), and Credit Card Debt of about 00. So I have loans totaling 420.
I also have a car payment, cell phone, however I pay no rent, but my grandparents will soon be asking for that.
I just got a new job that pays me 000 per year. So if I don’t put anything into savings I can pay off my loans in about 4 years, however when you begin to figure in my other expenses it’s more like 7 years.
Consolidation is not really an option, because the 000 is an “Education Alternative Loan”, it’s not a federal loan. The 00 loan is a no interest loan. And the 620 is a direct federal loan.
-My dilemma is that, I have a girlfriend that I want to begin a life with. I wish to get an apartment with her maybe in the next year or so. And I want to marry her.
Situation 1- Do I put no money into savings and just tackle the loans head on? I will have no money for retirement or a down payment on a house.
Situation 2- I put some money aside into savings, and it will take longer to pay off?
Situation 3- Declare bankruptcy if I can?
I apologize for this taking so long, but I don’t know what to do. Thank you for your help.

I have improved credit after filing bankruptcy about 5 years ago . I was able to secure auto loan and capital one card , but I find I am desperate for small loan of about 1,500 and most payday loan places offer a max of 800.00 in our area. I am also very scared of all the online fast loans due to scamming for information .Any ideas?
