Can I file bankruptcy on an open civil case? Will it stop it?

I am being sued by former tenants that I had evicted for non payment of rent. They are claiming that I breached the contract for not selling them the property back, but they were in default by non payment and couldn’t get a mortgage when I was going to settle out of court with them. They provided false mortgage pre-approvals and do not pay any of their bills and can’t qualify for a mortgage. I want to file a chapter 7 and wanted to know if this would stop them in their tracks, as my lawyer fees are piling up. I won in district court and got the maximum judgment allowed, they appealed but didn’t continue to pay rent so they were evicted. I am selling the property via a short sale and they put a lis pendens on it, so I have my lawyer working on that. I know that their lawyer is shady as he is a personal friend of theirs. They are doing this to make my life a living Hell and so that I have high attorney’s fees. Do I have to wait or can I file now?
No, there hasn’t even been a court date set and my attorney feels that we’ll win but he said that we’ll never collect from these deadbeats and I want them out of my life.

Most advantageous to file bankruptcy sooner or later?

Need around 2400 dollars for lawyer fees. Bankruptcy won’t even be "filed" until that’s paid. Current on credit cards but starting to fall behind and have medical bills. Will take around 6 months to come up with the money unless I can find a way to get it sooner.

I will stop making payments on credit cards now that I’ve decided to declare bankruptcy–which was a tough decision. Is it better to file bankruptcy ASAP, or later, or doesn’t it matter either way? Can the damage be lessened in terms of heartache, credit score, etc. depending when I file? Do I look better to the court as far as financial hardship, etc. if I file later since my credit cards will be totally behind by then and I’ll have more debt, etc? Lawyer seems to generally act indifferent to these things (only had initial meeting so far, signed papers that I am retaining them).

Any help on tnis or general bankruptcy advice is appreciated.

Should I file for bankruptcy?

I have about ,000 in credit card debt. I don’t have any income or assets of any kind (unless you count clothes–I’m living with my parents and borrow their car if I need to). The credit cards have been slowly going into default ever since I lost my job two years ago and now I haven’t been able to make any kind of payments for about 9mos, so they’ve all gone into collection. I won’t be working again for at least a year or two. I’m sick of all the harassment from the CC companies, and also am concerned about them taking all the money I make when I’m eventually able to return to work.

But I’m concerned because a) I can’t make payments of any kind on a bankruptcy settlement and b) I could only afford maybe a few hundred dollars for lawyer fees and everything.

Should I file for bankruptcy or just ignore the debt? Will they take all the money I make when I’m finally able to return to work if I don’t declare bankruptcy?

I am looking to file bankruptcy as affordably and effectively as possible? Any ideas?

I live in New York City and like most people looking to file bankruptcy its because I don’t have much money and certainly not enough to pay all my debt! I’ve looked into filing and it looks like from what I can tell to file a Chapter 7 will be around 00-2000 in fees, court fee and lawyer fees. Is there a more affordable way to do it without sacrificing on the quality of the filing?

Is there a cheap way to file for bankruptcy?

My mother is in a bit of a financial pickle. She has credit card debts, I’m not sure of the exact amount, but over ,000, at least, most of it from a failed person business. She feels that the best option right now is to file for bankruptcy. However, she cannot even afford to do that! It costs somewhere near ,600 for the various court and lawyer fees. She cannot save up because we’re already living paycheck to paycheck. I’m only sixteen, so any job I manage to get won’t do much good. None of our relatives are capable of lending her the money. I don’t think self-filing is a possibility. The whole situation seems kind of hopeless. Any ideas?

What is a low cost way to file bankruptcy?

I live in Michigan and need to file bankruptcy. However, even doing that costs money that I really don’t have. I know that I can file it myself and save on lawyer fees, but I don’t know how hard the paperwork is to do.

I don’t own any real property, nor do I have any mortgage debt. I currently do not have any income – I’m going to school. Mostly its credit card and various other stuff thats almost 5-8 years old now.

Has anyone done this before? And how difficult was it?

Or if I should pay to have it done, does anyone know of a low cost way to go?

Thanks ahead of time!
The debt amount is around ,000
