We have no joint accounts or assets (all were closed or separated at time of dissolution). Although most of her debt did exist when we were married. Do I have anything to be concerned about? Can/will the creditors come after me? I live in Montgomery County, Ohio (I know bankruptcy laws vary from state to state).
My ex is trying to raise my child support and make me pay for the bills that fell back on her when I filed bankruptcy. She says I am in contempt and can go to jail, but our divorce decree says that I will pay for only the bills that our in my name. It says nothing about paying for joint accounts that she made me keep only because they owed money on them. I could not afford them so I filed bankruptcy. She is also asking for my current pay stubs and last years tax return for her lawyer. What should I do?
I am currently am not living with and about to file for legal separation from my husband. He just told me he is filing bankruptcy, he owns a construction company that’s had a hard year. We are not ready to call it quits yet and divorce, but I want to protect myself. We have no joint accounts and my name is not even on the house he’s living in or associated with his business. Even if we get a legal separation will I still be affected by his bankruptcy? We live in Oregon.
