Fired or quit? I lost my job awhile back due to personal issues in my life, mostly medical that is completely under control now. My previous employer told me that they would do what they could to work with me on getting a new job (they themselves are filing for bankruptcy or I’d go back there) so I’m wondering if on my resume I should put that I quit or got fired, because it was a little of both…

Okay so I am a correctional officer right now, working on my degree online in criminal justice and i turn 23 next year, which are some of the requirements i have heard of to become an FBI agent. The problem is that I got divorced about a year ago and my ex husband left me with about 3 credit cards that were maxed out at the time, I cant afford to pay them, one of them is 00 alone, So when i get taxes back next year i am thinking about filing for bankruptcy. I read that to be hired into the FBI you have to have a credit check. So will filing bankruptcy hurt my chances of being considered for the job?? Please only answer if you know the answer, I really need to know!! Thank you so much!!

A few months back, I had to let my automobile go as a voluntary repossesion. Now, they are filing to put a ,000 judgement against me. After I pay my monthly bills and rent, I barely have enough left just for day to day living expenses, NO money in the bank, no assets, etc. WOULD THERE BE ANY VALUE TO FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY? If this judgement is placed, and my wages are garnished, or however they do it….I’ll sink right to the bottom! Any suggestions out there? Thanks.

We haven’t made any payments on it yet. My husband is the registered owner and his dad is the legal owner (since he cosigned), although we are going to ask his dad to register it in his name. We have only one other vehicle worth 00 and no other assets. We got the cycle to manage the fuel crisis since my husband has to commute, and we are barely managing right at the federal poverty level. I can’t imagine that any court would want to take and try to liquidate something that is still owned fully by the bank, right? We are filing bankruptcy because of huge medical bills that are way out of our range of ability to pay, due to a severe injury I suffered two years ago, which is in collections. We were served with summons a couple of days ago and are seriously considering filing for bankruptcy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I’m trying to not file for bankruptcy. Overdraft protection is the only thing keeping me from making late or no payments at all on my bills and that’s nearly maxed out. I’m in huge cc debt, apppr 35k, and bankruptcy seems like the easiest way out and to feel like a person again. I want to try and fight my way out of this mess if I can. I would like to see if a service can help me but know there’s a lot of scams out there. Is CCCS a debt consolidation service like Debtco or are they two different things? How do I go about finding a fair and reputable service? What types of questions should I ask? I’m near Portland, OR. Anyone have a suggestion of where to find a good service or lawyer (if bnkrp is in the future)?
Also, is a charge off really that much better or different than filing for bankruptcy? What’s the difference when it comes to your credit report and how it is viewed by potential lenders?
TIA

My husband and I disagree over whether or not to hire a lawyer to help us negotiate the steps of filing for bankruptcy. What are the pros and cons of hiring a lawyer and what are the pros and cons of a "do it yourself" filing?

My previous employer still owes me money for work, but she shut down her company before paying me. I want to take her to small claims, but I believe she plans on filing for bankruptcy. She said if she’s taken to court, then she’ll HAVE to file for bankruptcy because she doesn’t have any money to pay up anyway, but she does say she’ll pay me when she does get money. I’ve heard a couple of sides already. Someone said if I file small claims BEFORE she files bankruptcy, she’ll still have to pay me. But someone else said that’s still no guarantee! Who’s correct and why? What should I do?
Please… if you answer this, please be serious. I’d like you to answer if you know the law in this matter.

Maria Cook mislead me for several months into thinking that she would be issuing me a refund for services that she and her fraudulent company Premiere Productions Inc. failed to deliver.
I have pinged her about it every week for the last 5 months and on every occasion she re-assured me that I would be getting a refund from her. That was obviously a big fat lie just like everything else that she told me to bait me into hiring her bogus company which is a front for a major ponzi scheme and SCAM of epic proportions.
Every single time I asked her about my refund she would make up some lame excuse, but I would give her the benefit of the doubt. Recently she told me that she discussed the refund with her attorney and that he would be contacting me. I was never contacted by her attorney and when I informed her of that fact she would make up some other random excuse. When I contacted her attorney directly, he told me that he has never heard of my name or even talked about any refund with Maria Cook.
Aside from Maria Cook, here are some of the other individuals that other clients have confirmed to be prominent participants in this elaborate SCAM and CON.
Maria Cook
Tara Ward
Dawn Pugilese
Angie Shelly aka Michelle Farrell
Bridgett Horton
James Blackley
Now Maria Cook is telling me that the company is in financial trouble and in the process of filing for bankruptcy so she cannot refund me any of the money I have given to her. Makes you wonder what Maria Cook did with the five figure sum of money that I had given her.
Don’t make the mistake of trusting Maria Cook like I did. All of the negative press about Premiere Productions Inc. is completely true and warranted.
Should I file a criminal complaint against Maria Cook. What can I do to get my money back and protect the public from serial scammers such as Maria Cook?
Here’s some of the dirt on Maria Cook and her SCAMS like Premiere Productions Inc

I’m filing for bankruptcy…included in the list of creditors that I can’ t pay off….is a Car loan. Actually it’s something called a smart buy—kind of like a lease but it’s actually in your name and owned by you. I’m still making payments on this vehicle and when it’s turned in I will owe thousands in over mileage which I can’t afford to pay.
My question is — Should I do a voluntary repossession on the car? If so when? Before I file or as soon as I file?

I am filing for bankruptcy, but my attorney needs to know the account numbers to verify. The problem is I haven’t touched those accounts in four years, they’re all charged off, and on my credit report it only lists some of the account number. How can I get the full account number so I can discharge these debts in bankruptcy?

I am caught between debt consolidation and filing for bankruptcy. Either option negatively affects my credit – so does not doing anything. Also, I am concerned that I will not be able to pay off my debt through consolidation.

Since GM is filing for bankruptcy, I’ve been reading that it’s going to be nationalized only for the "short term." So, I figure they should hopefully make some decent money once the government steps away. What are your opinions?

After Filing for bankruptcy our attorney assured us that our money situation would be taken care of. A little while after, our landlord told us that the utility company is sending her to collections for our debt, of course she is a little angry about the situation and told us that she is going to get a lawyer for herself. We have already tried to call our attorney but he is out of the office. Of course we will try again later, but I was just curious if anyone has had this problem, and can they really go after someone else for our debt?

When I was younger as soon as I could get a credit card I did. After filing for bankruptcy I decided that I should never get a credit card again. I do have a debit/credit card but that’s it. The only downside is that in order to rent a car I had to get a credit check because I didn’t have a "real" credit card. Should everyone have a credit card? Pros? Cons?

I know I’m in desperate need of filing for bankruptcy, but I am completely dumb when it comes to things like this. If you have filed before in California can you give a helping hand?
-I have so many bills, and have no paper record as to how much I owe on any of these, how would I get that information if I dont even know what I owe?
-I understand there are classes that I need to take now, how do I go about taking these classes?
-What is a step by step process that I would need to do to file bankruptcy??
In order to file bankruptcy in California you need to take classes.

I have always wondered what the cons when filing for bankruptcy were. And is it common to do this? Just a curiosity. Thanks!

I live in Florida and have spoken with a Bankruptcy lawyer about my situation. I had excellent credit prior to a house I had up for sale being on the market for 6 months and tried to sustain two mortgages plus expenses on both houses and a lot of credit card debt, mostly used to fix up both houses.
It’s been since March 2007 that I made my last credit card payments. I took all of the 00 I received as a tax refund and paid it on 5 different cards.
I called the credit card companies and tried to set up a payment plan of some sort because I was drowning. NONE of the 5 would and acted really crappy when asked. The phone calls also bordered on harassment.
So, eating ramen noodles and peanut butter started pissing me off. If they didn’t want to work with me, then I wouldn’t work with them.
I changed my telephone number and stopped paying them.
After speaking with an attorney early this year, he stated that unless I was faced with court papers to appear, to stave off filing for bankruptcy. If I did file, it would be for Chapter 13 he stated.
I wanted a second opinion so here I am. My questions are…
If I do not file, the statue of limitations runs out in less than 2.5 years for the state of Florida. If I am not served a summons, after the SOL runs out, can they still serve me with papers?
If there is no summons or judgment, will the charge off debts stay on my record for 7 years from the last time I paid the credit card company? Or when the debt was sold to a collection agency which I think is usually a year afterwards (they all have been sold).
If the debt is sold again to another collection agency, does my time start over?
On my credit record, will there be an entry for the credit card company debt AND the collection agency?
I simply want to know when the credit card company debt and charge offs will drop from my record if I do not pay them.
Thanks for any help you can provide…

The SOL is 4 years, it will run out in 2.5 years since my last payment is what I was referring to.

I keep reading about people and companies filing for bankruptcy these days. Particularly GM and Chrysler. What exactly happens when someone files for bankruptcy? People say that it’s something you want to avoid if at all possible, but I’ve also heard Bush say that it’s a good thing for the auto companies to do in order to reorganize their companies. Now I’m no Bush fan but there’s got to be SOME substance to what he said (maybe?) as his economic advisers are saying this is a good idea. Why does Bush say this is a good idea while many other leaders say it’s a bad idea?
I’ve also read comments from "regular" people who say that the Big Three should be left to go bankrupt and clean up their own mess. But that this would cause tons of people to lose their jobs.
I’ve looked up the dictionary definition of bankruptcy as well as the wiki page and I’m still confused. I need someone to give me a very simple explanation about what bankruptcy is and what is going on right now in the US. Please help me understand this!
