I have almost 20 years of bad credit I should have filed for bankruptcy ages ago.

Why is a hiring company/employer checking a person’s credit history so damn important when someone is trying their best to find employment?

How can I clear up my credit history so that hiring companies/employers don’t see it (without spending any money)?

What’s the sense of getting & knowing what’s on your credit report when you can’t do anything about it (because you can’t pay the creditors off)?

I got laid-off from a job of 12 years in January now I have lost all faith, I’ll never get another job, help please!

He has kinda bad credit but fixable. Mine is horrible and I will never be able to pay everything off.He wants to buy a house someday and am afraid my credit will screw him. Would it be better if I file bankruptcy ? If so, should I do it before we get married? We live in Oregon.

My husband is 21, unfortunately he has made some horrible decisions in his life regarding money. He is now considered ‘high risk’ by EVERY loan company you can think of, including the NO CREDIT BAD CREDIT NO PROBLEM people, lol. Now his (not mine, my name is not on it, and please remember, I just recently became his wife!) car is up for repossession. He leaves for basic in January, and that will solve many of our money problems. However, we NEED this car, myself and my daughter, while he is in basic and up until that time. How long will it take them to come get it? And the real question I am asking is–with his credit being this horrible, and owing all this money that’s so terribly behind, should he just file bankruptcy?? I know it will freeze the repo and we can at least keep the car. He is only 21, I know that is young, but his credit report is four pages long–of crap he still owes. Would it be better to start over even with a bankruptcy? (my credit is good.)
That is–keep the car for an undetermined amount of time. His mother (imagine that, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree) filed bankruptcy earlier this year and drove her truck for free for over six months.

I am only 20 and I feel as if I have bad credit. I have taken out six credit cards to help my mother pays bills when she went broke and I have not paid my bills for 6 months and I was wondering if I should file bankruptcy. About 7 months ago my credit score was 640, now I’m not sure. I have heard that you can file bankruptcy and still even drive a brand new car and get financed. At the same time, I heard that if you don’t pay any of your debts they will just fall off of your credit report after 7 years. Are either of these true?? Any advice??? HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
If I am actually able to make some type of payments, would it be better to do that, or just let it fall off my record??? It would be paid off within 7 years. So would that help my credit score or me at all???

I defaulted on some credit cards in 2005 when I became disabled and lost my job. I am currently wondering whether I should file for chapter 7 bankruptcy because I want to do the responsible thing and start repairing my credit score. I’m still disabled and can’t afford to pay these debts off. I don’t own a house or have any valuable assets and the debt is a bit over 10k. My credit report states that the negative defaulted items are scheduled to be listed until 2011. Since I have had bad credit all these years and somehow managed around it. I wonder if it’s worthwhile to stick it out another couple yrs instead of filing bankruptcy which will sit on my report for another 10 yrs. Can these defaulted accounts renew themselves somehow after 2011 and remain on my report? And what will happen to my report once these items are off? I have 3 old accounts in good standing but I don’t know if they will be around much longer, especially by 2011. They may be on until 2012 which will give me a very short window with a better FICO score to possibly re-establish credit with. I have no credit right now so I’m just at a stand still and can’t afford legal advice. Thanks to anyone with helpful advice and valuable input.

My husband and I are trying to get a home loan and we are consistently being denied. We both have bad credit due mostly to nonpayment of medical bills. If we file bankruptcy will it be long before we are able to get a home loan? Will filing affect the status of our student loans which we do not want to include in the bankruptcy?

I am confused as to what to do – my husband and I recently reconciled and between the two of us, we have ,000 in unsecured credit card debt. Although he makes very good money, approx. 00 per month, we cannot keep up on all the minimum payments for these cards, let alone trying to pay the principal.

He has a car payment and we own our house (or we will in 27 years anyway – we have not been late on the mortgage as that is our top priority. We also have 4 kids…… should we file? We figure since we have the house and vehicles that we can deal with the bad, bad credit that this will result in but are we forgetting something?

We considered a debt consolidation but we heard this is more often then not a scam and ruins your credit as much as or more then a bankruptcy. Any advice is appreciated ~ thank you.
Unfortunately all the late payments have resulted in a credit rating in the 500’s which is too low to qualify for a re-fi.

I kept dropping in and out of school for years. Now i’ve taken a job as a painter’s assistant that i love. But i no i will not be able to pay anything on my loans because i barely make minimum wage. I don’t care about my credit because i already got bad credit.

I have been unemployed for 9 months with bad credit as a resultof late payment. Should i file chapter 7 b/c I currently have no assets or dispute with my creditors to have some things removed from my credit report to improve my score? I made some bad credit card decisions when I was younger and I’ve been paying for it for quite some time now. I’m going to college full time, about to graduate, and working 20-30 hours/week. The money I earn is barley enough to cover my monthly payments. The rate I’m going with interest and all, it will take me a while to pay this off. I am looking for a good company to buy leads from for a mortgage company that specializes in ‘hard to do’ loans such as bad credit, bankruptcy, etc. Would prefer to find out about great live leads companies as well as lower cost leads that have a high closing rate. With so many of the companies out there, it is hard to find a really good one with a good reputation.

Besides a bad credit score, does anything else happen to you? Are you still able to use your credit cards after that? My good friend just filed for bankruptcy yet insists that we should be buying more stuff for our apartment, spending more money on things. I know he will just get right back into debt again. Sometimes it makes me angry to think people like this just get everything wiped clean with no real penalty, to do it all over again. Just curious. thanks

I have really BAD credit that there is NO way to repair it unless I file for bankruptcy… I’m currently a student and have several more years of school left. I am up to date on my current student loans right now and I’m so afraid of filing for bankruptcy because I don’t want it to effect future student loans.
