Sould I tell debt collectors im going to file bankruptcy?

Hey.. I was unemployed for 8 months and got very behind on all my bills, credit cards, loans.. etc..
I have collection agencies and debt collectors calling me at least 15-20 times a day trying to get there money (everyday all day).. I am about to file bankruptcy to get out of this mess.. I tried debt consolidation, its a joke.. My question Is when the creditors call me should I tell them im in the process of filing bankrptcy OR WILL THAT CREATE MORE PROBLEMS , SUCH AS WAGE GARNISHMENT OR SUEING ME ….

  1. Let me steer you:

It will not do you any good to tell them that until AFTER you have hired an attorney to start the bankruptcy process for you. AFTER you have a lawyer, then you refer all your calls to the lawyer and his office deals with them.

Just telling them will not help. They will ask for your lawyer’s name, address and phone number and they will ask you for a case number. You don’t have any of that information until you have hired an attorney.

THEN you can give them your attorney’s information and they will stop calling you.

Take your yearly salary. If you owe more than your yearly salary, I would look at bankruptcy. Simply tell creditors you can not make any payments and you want them to contact you only in writing. Tell collectors that you have all phone calls recorded. That usually slows down some collectors. If you ever try to settle with a company, never give them your financial info over the phone. Only make a payment, once company sends you a written agreement and only pay by money order, never check or credit card.

It won’t matter one way or another. LOTS of people who are in debt "tell" bill collectors that they are filing bankruptcy … lots more than actually follow through and do it, in fact. So debt collectors take such statements with a grain of salt (i.e., they don’t do anything differently).

Once you HAVE FILED then the debt collectors must stop contacting you, but until you have your case number and the bankruptcy is filed, nothing you say to debt collectors about "intentions" of filing bankruptcy will make any difference to them.

Your solution is to go for debt consolidation company, which will answer in behalf of you, just visit this site http://www.creditcard2.com/ and http://www.creditqs.com/. Here they will tell you how to make over from this.
