Is there an easy way to determine if I qualify for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy before I see an attorney?

James..you can review bankruptcy information at their official website at http://www.usbankruptcy.gov It’ll give you some information pertaining to each chapter, what is required by the new laws and what each chapter pertains. To qualify for the chapter 7 with the new laws, you have to pass what they call a "means test" based on your income, and by the state you reside in. Best advice is to review the website provided. Give a local bankruptcy attorney who does free consultations a call and get in to see one. They will look at your income for the past 6 months, assets if any, debts and your taxes either for 3 or 4 years. They base all this information on what you qualify for in a bankruptcy filing. It’s not just cut and dry. It’s all based on your information, and not everyone’s is the same. Good Luck!
