How do you file bankruptcy in colorado?

If you don’t know please don’t answer, it will only confuse me. If you do know, please share all you can.
How much does it cost? Do I need a lawyer? how long does it take? what will happen afterwards? Will I be able to rebuild my credit?

I can tell you some basics for any state. Never file bankruptcy unless you owe more than $65,000. And, because of recent laws if you work and have some spendable income the judge won’t let you go Chapter 7 and cancel out all your debt; the judge will put you on a Chapter 13 Plan and you’ll still have to pay some back.

Ask the clerk of court at the courthouse the cost to file a bankruptcy. Only the very poorest of people occasionally file their own bankruptcy (poor because of medical bills), so you will need an attorney, and you must allow payment to him upfront (you can’t make payments to him).

Bankruptcy is a strang thing..if you file Chapter 7 and clear out all your debt you can immediately buy a new car because you have no debt, however if you don’t have work it may be very difficult to be hired in any job dealing with money because when you file for bankruptcy you are considered irresponsible. This might affect any management position you try to get later on. Bankruptcies stay on your report 7 years but available to creditors, rental agents, employers, insurance companies for 10 years. And if anyone still asks after 10 years they can still get the information. So even though people think it’s gone from their record, it really isn’t.

I suggest you don’t hurt yourself, that you get an extra job and pay off your debts so you can own a home, car, get education, etc and live in peace in your future. And cut up your cards and don’t spend anymore.

You really need to see a lawyer. He/She will do all the work and appear in court with you. I do know a lawyer in Denver who specializes in BK. Last time I checked he cost about $500.00 plus filing fees.

You can rebuild your credit. Just takes awhile.
