How do I go about getting my tax return forms for the past two years?

My father is filing for bankruptcy and needs his tax returns for 2006 and 2007. His wife filed online and she is now in the hospital and unable to speak to us. So we need to know how to obtained them.

Your father must contact IRS at 1-800-829-1040, have him ask for a Return Transcript (Free) the transcript is a line by line of what was actually filed on the return. But if you need the actual copy of the "tax return" then download form 4506 from the IRS website and pay $39.00 per copy. This usually takes up to 60 days to be mailed to you. The transcript only takes 10-20 days. The transcript is accept for as a return.

Due to disclosure laws you can’t call for your father only if he is available to give IRS authorization to speak to you.
He can also obtain the Return Transcript from the Local IRS office in your city.

look on the back of an IRS tax book. Call the toll free number and ask someone there. You can also call the federal building in your area

just call the Tax Office & tell them to kiss your ass – that should do it

    There are several ways
    1. Contact IRS by phone and order transcript
    2. Walk in to the service center in your area and request the transcript
    3. if you want a copy that look like the 1040 we are used to seeing use option 1 or 2 and pay $39
    4. If your father’s wife used an accountant to e-file, you can get copies from them
    5. if she used a self preparation software such as turbotax or H&R Block online and the software is still on her computer you should be able to reprint it.

    Good luck

You can request a copy of prior year returns from the IRS.
