Yes! You can do it without a lawyer. It’s very technical, but you can educate yourself. Try a google search of self-help bankruptcy kits. There will be some cost to you, but not nearly as much as a lawyer would cost. Do the research, just be careful! The judges will be very strict, and will have no mercy on you. You will REALLY have to know what you’re talking about. Good luck!!

Think about it, there’s a REASON lawyers "get away" with charging as much as they do, it’s because law can be so complex that they can justify high fees to do things right.
A far better plan would be to negotiate with your creditors to settle for less than you actually owe them, which will make them far happier than if they get NOTHING. You do owe them the money, after all!
