Bankruptcy? Do I need Attorney?

I had taken the Means test and passed. I also got all my Bankruptcy Ch. 7 documens done through an online site and its all completed. I also attended the 1st counseling class. I am ready to go to court to pay my file fee and start the procedure. Do I need an Attorney or can I go ahead and file on my own?

When it comes to bankruptcy you should seek counsel from an attorney who understands your situation.

Yes it is advised, if you have missed something such as an expected income tax refund. Then you receive refund after filing, that could be case for criminal fraud. That is just one example. An attorney knows how to ask the right questions and make sure schedules are correct.

It can be done on your own. Nolo has a good book for this. It’s not advisable though. You risk losing property, or having your case dismissed if you file it improperly or don’t have all your paperwork in order. If it is dismissed through your own error, you may not be permitted to file again for a number of months.
